Ramu (Sunil) loses his father in faction feuds in a village in Rayalaseema, so his mother takes him away from Rayalaseema to save her son. He grows up in Hyderabad and after his mother’s death, he tries hard to meet ends. One day, he receives a notice from the village to claim 5 acres of land, so he boards a train to the village. On board, he meets a beautiful girl Aparna (Saloni) who happens to be daughter of Ramineedu (Nagineedu). Ramineedu has been waiting to kill Ramu for years, as Ramu’s father killed Ramineedu’s brother. Aparna and Ramu become friends and Ramu comes to her house, there he learns that Ramineedu would kill him off he steps out of this house. Rest of drama is all about how Ramu saves his life.

Analysis

Three cheers to director Rajamouli, the top director of commercial entertainers in Tollywood. With Maryada Rammanna, he proves once again that he is capable of creating magic with any script or any star or non-star. Although Maryada Ramanna is complete departure from his style of films, starring a comedian as lead hero, he weaves a drama that glues the audiences to the seats without distraction. At 2 hours 10 Minutes, the film interests you till the last minute with focused narration. Near to one hour, the film runs revolves around a single house and yet you don’t feel bored. There Rajamouli triumphs completely as director and screenplay writer. Although there is not much entertainment or comedy, the narration holds the interest and puts you on guessing game how would the hero come out from the tricky position he is in and saves his life.

It is entirely Rajamouli’s film. You don’t find double meaning dialogues and excessive gore (although there is plenty of action and swords, fights, chases). Rather Rajamouli focuses on the suspense and tense moments. With some good songs by Keeravani and superb background score, the director turns the simple story into an engrossing movie.

As a narrator, what Rajamouli does best is not deviating from the plot and not inserting unnecessary comedy track by other comedians. He should be commended for it.

However, Maryada Ramanna is not devoid of minor flaws. It lacks comedy, the supposed comedy on Sunil and his antics, with bicycle talking is not that funny. And doesn’t have any awe-inspiring moments that we regularly find in Rajamouli’s movies. Other than those, Marayada Ramanna is clean fun and good fast-paced entertainer.

Performances

For any actor, shouldering a movie to almost 2 hour run time, a tough task. Especially the actor is not charismatic. But Sunil with his innocent looks and sincere performance holds the movie. He looks agile after reducing weight drastically. He doesn’t do much comedy but his expressions and the tension that he evokes is perfect. Sunil can now be a bankable lead actor.

Saloni is cute with her expressive eyes. She looks glamorous and a good pair to Sunil. Nagineedu in the role of a faction feud has right looks but his performance is not that effective. Brahmaji seems more of an uncle to Saloni than Bava. Rest of the cast is okay. Ravi Teja has lent voice to a bicycle in his typical manner.

One expects a Rajamouli’s film to be visually grand and the film doesn’t fail on it. Ram Prasad gives best output for a small film (one shot where Sunil is put up in a room, and camera is seen from the key hole angle is superb). Artwork by Ravinder is good. As the most of the movie runs in the house, his set of the house has enough space and more rooms to make the drama effective. Keeravani always give best output to Rajamouli’s movies and for Maryada Ramanna all his songs are melodious. Especially the background score and some bit songs are terrific. Production values for a low-budget movie are good. Writer S S Kanchi’s dialogues are apt for the movie. It is entirely Rajamouli’s show and he does his best. As a director, he is topnotch.

Bottom-line
Rajamouli has crafted a movie that not only elevates his name and fame but also gives paisa vasool entertainment to the audiences. Maryada Ramanna is fast-paced drama with tense moments. Sunil’s performance, good camera work, superb music and Rajamouli’s perfect narrative skills are plus points of the movie. Enjoy it.

Rating: 3.5/5

Inspiration

The film’s basic plot is taken from Our Hospitality (1923), a Hollywood silent movie. But they adopted it so effectively.

Bala Krishna's 'Simha' Movie Review (As Per Web Sources) 0

Media Club Member | 5:45 AM | ,

Film: Simha
Cast: Balakrishna, Nayanatara, Namita, Sneha Ullal, Brahmanandam, Jhansi, Venu Madhav, Ali, Dharmavarapu, and others
Music: Chakri
Cinematography: Wilson
Editing: Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao
Art: A S Prakash
Produced by: Paruchuri Kiriti
Story, screenplay, dialogues and directed by: Boyapati Srinu
Release date: April 30, 2010
CBFC Rating: U/A

What’s it about!
Sreemannarayana (Balakrishna) is a lecturer in a college in Hyderabad but he doesn’t tolerate any injustice and bashes up the wronged guys. A voluptuous female colleague (Namita) loves him, and so does Janaki (Sneha Ullal) who Sreemannarayana saves from goons. When a rowdy (Aditya Menon) from Vizag comes to take away Janaki from Sreemannarayana, a flashback is revealed. 30 years ago, in Bobbili, a family of landlords treats the local people as slaves and kills if anyone revolts against them. Enters a foreign-returned doctor Narasimha (Balakrishna) belonging to the Bobbili royal dynasty to save the people. Within no time, he takes law into his hands and becomes savior, but he and his wife (Nayanatara) are killed in a fight in the end. It is now Sreemannarayana’s job to finish the mission.

Analysis
It has been six long years since Balakrishna delivered a hit. His last blockbuster was Lakshmi Narasimha (2004). All the movies that came during this period disappointed his fans and general audiences alike. But his fans can rejoice now. Balakrishna’s latest flick Simha is packed with right commercial ingredients to satisfy them. Although the film has nothing new to tell, second half is packaged well. Soul and highpoint of the film is scenes involving the second Balakrishna’s character - that of a doctor. Though violence is excessive, action episodes and editing is fine. And also Balakrishna looking ferocious again in key scenes has elevated the movie. High-voltage action-dialogues is his forte and he does it with finesse this time.

First half is mediocre; second half saves the movie. For die-hard fans of Balakrishna, Simha entertains to the core. For other audiences, it seems an average fare. On the whole, it is a better film for Balakrishna in the long time.

Performances
Balakrishna looks good in the role of doctor. Unlike his regular movies, he is restrained and yet very ferocious when required. He has also tried to come up with some steps in songs. Nayanatara as a jamindari wife looks royal and beautiful. Her role is minuscule but makes impact. While Namita looks unappealing in her oversized figure, Sneha Ullal appears like a kid in front of Balakrishna. K R Vijaya as grandmother is okay. Aditya Menon and Malayalam Sukumar as antagonists are perfect. Kota Srinivas Rao once again shows how good an actor he is. Comedians like Venumadhav, Brahmanandam, Dharmavarapu, and Krishna Bhagawan try hard to make us laugh but fail miserably.

Camera work (Wilson and Prasad) is first rate. Music by Chakri is also good. Editing is nice. Director Boyapati has tried to play safe with the same time-tested mass elements that are seen in films like Narasimha Naidu, Samara Simha Reddy and Magadheera.

Bottom-line!
After a long time, Balakrishna’s movie comes with right commercial ingredients. Second half is asset to Balakrishna’s Simha. On the whole the film is a pucca commercial entertainer.

Plus Points:

Hero's Hair Style(changed with every time shift in the movie and looked completely natural)

Minus Points:
Story(Old fashioned tale)

Technical Departments:

Cinematography is of top notch. Production values of the film are grand. Director by James Cameron is extrodinary. The visual effects in the film are brilliant.

Analysis:

Director James Cameron truly created a world of his own, which makes you feel as if you've been transported into a new world while watching the film. Once again, he has silenced the critics by delivering an extraordinary film. Avatar takes us to the planet's boundless, breathtaking collection of natural and unnatural wonders which are presented in the most realistic and immersive 3-D ever witnessed on film. Though the director came up with a lot of original ideas for this film, but the story was not one of them. Overall, Avatar delivers an anti-war message.

Verdict: Avatar is truly a master piece of filmmaking, a step ahead in visual effects that sets new standards. A must-watch film.

Saleem Review ,Story Line 0

Media Club Member | 5:39 AM | ,

Film: Saleem
Banner: Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures
Cast: Vishnu, Ileana, Mohan Babu, Kaveri Jha, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Tanikella Bharani, Hema, MS Narayana, Ali, Raghubabu, Venkat etc
Music: Sandeep Chowta
Art: Anand Sai
Fights: Vijay, Kanal Kannan
Camera: Ram Prasad
Production: Padmasri Mohan Babu
Story, Screenplay Direction: YVS Choudary
Release Date: 12th Dec 2009

Manchu Vishnu’s ‘Saleem’ released today after a long wait. Ileana, the heroine in demand paired up with him. Mohan Babu also played a key role in the film and that attracted the audiences, obviously. Walk into the details to know more…

Essence:
The movie starts with Satyawati (Ileana) and her story in a village backdrop. She is the daughter of Singamanaidu (Napolean), a respectable villager. She comes to the village for a brief vacation and lives amidst all lovable relatives recalling the movies Murari, Athadu, Ninne Pelladatha etc etc (sorry for taking the comparison. This film has no glory close to an iota of those master pieces)!! Like in many other films the hero (Vishnu with character name Munna) arrives in that village and stays along with the family in the disguise of orphan. The story runs with insipid dialogues, stupid screenplay and energy less narration till the interval. And the interval bang has got a twist that rotates the heads of audiences to 360 degrees. I cannot reveal that here as that is the only ‘suspense factor’ in it. And the post interval period is another hard nut to bite. Mohan Babu plays the mafia don OJO (an acronym for Ogirala Joginatham) and he has a duet with Kaveri Jha. The twist in the interval narrates rest of the story line with all confusion and cacophony. Who is Saleem is another part of the story that unwraps in second half. What happened for about 150 minutes will be in question mark at the conclusion of the movie.

Artistes:
Mohan Babu wouldn’t have played this role OJO at all. He has shown a teacher as source of eroticism. The artiste of his age shouldn’t have encouraged the director to demean a female teacher that way. It’s a head-down for entire female teacher community. I feel the teachers in Mohan Babu’s school ‘Sree Vidya Niketan’ would keep their heads down if they identify themselves in Kaveri Jha’s character and their master Mohan Babu in the role he played.

Vishnu has picked up considerably. He is really looking smart with lean look. His face is also showing some glow and young charisma. Dances are also impressive. But he needs to do exercise in voice modulation. He should take a few leaves from his father’s experience for next film.

Ileana is restricted to enticing male crowds through songs. YVS Choudary seems to have crossed the caliber of K Raghavendra Rao in igniting screen to flame with female glamour. But Ileana’s over action while delivering some dialogues is horrible. Kaveri Jha is also used for the glamour factor. But her role is disgusting.

Ali looked promising when he entered the screen as choreographer Gafar Khan. But his rotten country comedy makes decent crowds inconvenient.

Technically the movie is good. The sound effects, action part and cinematography are dealt up to perfection. Music is below average. And the main spirit of the movie is missed by director with erratic screenplay and punch less dialogues.

Underlines:

* Poolu Gusagusaladenani, the old from 1973 ‘Sreevaru Mavaru’ is remixed here and canned on Mohan Babu and Kaveri Jha
* Ramya Sree, the actress known for playing vamp, servant maid and college lecturer in different films appeared in a serious deglamorised role in it!

Kurradu Movie Review 0

Media Club Member | 6:48 AM | , ,

Film: Kurradu
Rating: 2.5/5
Banner: Anandhi arts
Cast: Varun Sandesh, Neha Sharma, Tanikella, Ravi Shankar, Venu, Ali, Surekha Vani, Pragathi etc
Music: Achchu
Story: Vetri Maran
Cinematography: Sarvesh Murari
Director: Gunnam Sandeep
Producer: Gemini Kiran
Release date: 12 Nov 2009

Varun Sandesh has been on top ever since his Happy Days. His Kotha Bangaru Lokam also had set a new record and thus he became a youth icon. He came up with Kurradu and obviously the expectations will be above the plane. Let us see how this worked.

Story:
Varun (Varun Sandesh) is a young boy who loves owning a sports bike. But his below middle class family background turns a barricade to fulfill his dream. His poor father (Tanikella Bharani) worries about his day-dreaming and irresponsible son. But after a dramatic incident his father gives him Rs 70000 to purchase bike out of his all life time savings. Varun buys a bike and enjoys. He finds a girl Hema (Neha Sharma) and both fall in love. But that bike results in turbulence in Varun’s life. What is that? That has to be seen on big screen.

Performances:
Varun Sandesh looked lean and lanky and he didn’t suit for the energy levels required for the role. He needs to upgrade his dialogue delivery pattern especially while portraying the roles of this kind.

Neha Sharma looked good with naughty smile and big eyes. But she hasn’t upgraded in the matter of performance. Many of her expressions sounded artificial and sometimes lagging in dialogue.

Tanikella Bharani is ok as middle class father while Pragathi is perfect in mother role. Ravi Shankar, the popular dubbing artiste played the lead villain role in fitting manner.

Others are ok.

Technically, the movie has no big thing to discuss about. The story sounds not so great as already ‘Ride’ has come on screen with similar theme.

Highlights:
Nothing notable

Analysis:
It’s a different version of ‘Ride’. It is also inspired from the Tamil movie ‘Polladavan’. But Pollavadan has already inspired Ride. While Ride has two heroes where one is arrogant and other is the one with poor background, here the hero in Kurradu possessess both in him. The bike forms common element both in Ride and Kurradu.

On a whole, the movie has no tempo that keeps audience fix on to seats with interest. First half is ok while second half seems to have run with no punch and required emotion.

The movie may not appeal in the way it’s expected.

Bottom Line: It can be watched only to kill time if you feel that’s Hobson’s choice.
